Public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia have saved a total of more than $40 million over two years through the Administrative Service Delivery Transformation (ASDT) initiative.
The project was launched in 2012. Savings include $30.66 million in 2014-15 and $10.5 million in 2013-14, with the goal of saving $50 million over three years.
In 2014-15, the work accomplished through the ASDT resulted in $30.66 million in cost savings and benefits. The savings achieved through 13 financial, human resource and joint procurement opportunities include:
- $12.9 million through a hardware and maintenance agreement.
- $1.4 million through natural gas joint procurement.
- $1.8 million through the joint procurement of improved videoconferencing services that led to increased utilization and a reduction in travel time and costs.
The public post-secondary sector is building on this success and has established a new Travel Management Services (TMS) program in which 18 public post-secondary institutions have indicated an interest in participating. The TMS will help provide cost-effective travel services and resources. Travel experts will provide accurate and efficient service, and provide public post-secondary institutions access to worldwide emergency travel assistance.
The TMS program will reduce travel costs, increase travel choice for post-secondary institutions and security of travel arrangements, and better inform institutions of the best travel options. The British Columbia Institute of Technology led the sector working group. Simon Fraser University led the procurement process.
The amount of savings and benefits will depend on the extent of uptake by the public post-secondary institutions in the TMS program.
The ASDT initiative was launched in 2012 to identify administrative efficiencies and improve service delivery, while protecting and maximizing government investments in education for B.C. students.
