The College of Applied Biology is creating new membership categories for both applied biology technicians and applied biology technicians in training, effective Jan. 1, 2016.
The college requested the two new membership categories to enhance the professional standing of technicians who choose to join the college, improving their employment prospects while supporting professional reliance. Applied biology technicians work throughout the province, often in roles assisting registered professional biologist and registered biology technicians.
In 2003, when the College of Applied Biology Act was introduced, the two membership categories were deferred at the request of the college. The new appointments will close those deferrals.
This is the second time the college has added to its membership categories. In 2008, both registered biology technologists and registered biology technologist in training were established at the college.
