The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a one-hectare wildfire in the community of Cedarvale, about 46 kilometres southwest of Hazelton. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
Due to the fire’s proximity to Highway 16 and firefighting operations, the RCMP briefly closed the highway to traffic in both directions. Thirty BC Wildfire Service personnel are now on scene, supported by two airtankers and two helicopters bucketing water onto the fire.
The RCMP has evacuated one home in the area and placed several other homes on evacuation alert. No structures are immediately threatened at this time.
The BC Wildfire Service asks members of the public who are driving on Highway 16 near this fire to exercise caution, since crews will be working close to the highway. Please check: www.drivebc.ca for details about current highway closures.
