Effective at midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, the area restriction currently in place for the Elaho Valley wildfire will be rescinded, due to reduced fire activity.
However, the Elaho Forest Service Road will remain closed at the 31.5-kilometre mark until further notice. This is to allow for terrain stability assessments to be conducted following the wildfire and recent heavy precipitation in the area.
Management of forest service roads (FSRs) and general access to this area will be undertaken by the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District. Anyone planning to access this area should first check the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District website: www.for.gov.bc.ca/dsq/Engineering/RoadInformation.htm
Recreationalists who choose to access areas affected by wildfires are reminded of post-wildfire hazards that may be present, including danger trees (trees whose roots or branches were damaged by the wildfire), falling debris and an increased risk of soil movement during or after a rainfall.
