The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died as a result of a motor vehicle incident which occurred near Shawnigan Lake on Jan. 17, 2015.

The man was Jack William MacMullan, aged 49, of Esquimalt.

Mr. MacMullan was the front passenger in a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 1 near Shawnigan Lake when the incident occurred.

Emergency services responded to the incident but Mr. MacMullan was confirmed deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle and single rear passenger also sustained injuries in the incident. No other vehicles were involved.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. MacMullan has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
