The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died as a result of a motor vehicle incident which occurred near Courtenay on Jan. 19, 2015.

The man was David William Vanderhorst, aged 30, from Qualicum Beach.

Mr. Vanderhorst was driving northbound on Highway 19 between Fanny Bay and Courtenay when the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a collision with an oncoming tractor trailer.

Emergency services responded to the incident but Mr. Vanderhorst was confirmed deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Vanderhorst has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
