The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who was found deceased in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park in North Vancouver on Feb. 17, 2015.
He was Liang Jin, also known as Leon Joy, aged 21, of Vancouver.
Mr. Jin had been reported missing to Vancouver Police on Jan. 3, 2015, when he had not returned after apparently going for a hike on Dec. 31, 2014. Massive search efforts that centred on the North Shore mountains at the time yielded no results.
On Feb. 16, 2015, continued search efforts by family and friends led to the discovery of Mr. Jin in a boulder field in the Hanes Valley within the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. He was deceased at the scene. Recovery efforts were completed on Feb. 17, 2015.
The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death. Foul play has now been ruled out.
The family of Mr. Jin has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service would like to extend its sincere thanks to North Shore Search and Rescue, North Vancouver RCMP, Vancouver Police Department and Metro Parks staff for their assistance with this case.
