The BC Coroners Service has announced that a public inquest will be held into the death of Gaetan Gilbert Plante.

The inquest will take place beginning June 8, 2015, at the Coroners Court in Burnaby.

Mr. Plante, aged 61, died on Jan. 17, 2014, as the result of a police shooting following an interaction with the Surrey RCMP at about 10 p.m. that day.

Presiding coroner John Knox and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
