A report on British Columbia's fourth Justice Summit, held Nov. 28 - 29, 2014, is now public and may be found here: http://www.justicebc.ca/en/rm/summits.html
The summit brought together over 80 leaders from victim services organizations, corrections, community and advocacy organizations, Aboriginal groups, the academic community, the judiciary, the legal profession, policing, and the provincial government. This diverse group of participants met at the University of British Columbia's faculty of law to identify ways to address issues related to domestic violence and sexual violence.
This and earlier Summit reports are used to inform the B.C. Justice and Public Safety Council's strategic plan for the sector. The next Justice and Public Safety Strategic Plan will be released at the end of March 2015 and will cover a three-year period from April 2015 through March 2018. The Council updates this plan annually as part of an ongoing planning process based on continued collaboration through Justice Summits. The plan outlines the Council's shared vision for the justice and public safety sector, and its intended direction, focus and projected performance measures over the next three years.
Justice Summits are intended to facilitate collaboration and encourage innovation across the sector by providing a forum for discussion between sector leaders and participants about how the system is performing and how it may be improved. Justice Summits are held at least once a year as required under the Justice Reform and Transparency Act (JRTA), which was passed in spring 2013.
The next Justice Summit will be held in fall 2015.
