The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a youth who died following a skiing incident on Blackcomb Mountain on March 21, 2015.
He was Cole Robert Anderson, aged 18, of Campbell River.
Mr. Anderson was part of a ski-racing group that was visiting Whistler-Blackcomb for a weekend of training and free-skiing. At about 3 p.m. on March 21, Mr. Anderson, who is described as being an expert skier, was skiing in an in-bounds area on Blackcomb when he went over a cliff about seven metres high, landing on an area covered with very little snow. He was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
Mr. Anderson’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
