The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a boating incident at a marina on Okanagan Lake on May 21, 2015.
He was David Gilbert Jones, aged 82, from Vernon.
Mr. Jones was repairing a mast on a sailboat at the Vernon Yacht Club on the morning of May 21, 2015, when he was witnessed to fall from the ladder he was using. He struck the rigging and parts of the boat and then fell into the lake. He was able to swim to the dock but became unresponsive as he arrived there. Bystanders rescued him from the water, but he was not able to be resuscitated.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Jones has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
