The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of two women who died as a result of a motor vehicle collision in Vernon on July 11, 2015.
They were Chantel Diane Bazin, aged 22, and Kayla Elizabeth Cartwright, aged 26, both of Kelowna.
Ms. Bazin was the driver, and Ms. Cartwright the front seat passenger, of a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 97 at approximately 2350 hours when their vehicle slid across the centreline into the northbound lane, colliding with an on-coming vehicle. Both women were deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment. The roads were wet at the time, and road conditions are being investigated as a possible factor in the incident.
The Coroners Service and Vernon RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The families of Ms. Bazin and Ms. Cartwright have been notified of their deaths. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
