The BC Coroners Service has announced that a public inquest will be held into the death of Alyssa Josephine Talina George.
The inquest will take place beginning Oct. 19, 2015, at the Supreme Court in Terrace.
Ms. George, aged 25, was found in medical distress in a cell at the Terrace RCMP holding cells on Sept. 4, 2013, about 14 hours after she had been taken into custody. She was flown to Vancouver General Hospital for more intensive treatment, but died there on Sept. 10, 2013.
Presiding coroner Donita Kuzma and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
