The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a girl who died following a wading incident on Osoyoos Lake on Aug. 17, 2015.
She was Naziha Mohammed, aged 12, from Calgary.
Naziha was wading with a friend in Osoyoos Lake near Haynes Point on the west side of the lake at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 when rough water caused her to slip into deeper water. Her friend went for help, leading to numerous people searching for the decedent until she was recovered. She was found by a parks official about one-half hour later in about two metres of water.
Naziha was rushed to South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver but was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
Naziha’s family members are all aware of her death. On behalf of them, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
