The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died following a collision between a BC ambulance and a train on Sept. 11, 2015.
She was Helena Theodora Van Gool, aged 87, of Langley.
Ms. Van Gool was the patient in the rear of a BC Ambulance, taking her from her seniors’ residence to hospital. Shortly after 11:15 a.m., near the intersection of 216 St. and Glover Rd. in Langley, the ambulance was in collision with a northbound CN freight train, travelling on the CP Rail tracks.
Ms. Van Gool was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, but died in hospital later that day.
The BC Coroners Service, RCMP ICARS team, WorkSafeBC, the Transportation Safety Board, BC Ambulance Service, and CP Rail all have launched investigations into this death.
The family of Ms. Van Gool has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
