Police officer honours for valour, meritorious service

The following honourees were selected by a committee of representatives from the B.C. Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ministry of Justice’s Police Services Division.

AWARDS OF VALOUR:

Abbotsford Police Department

Constable Kim Harder, constable Alex Odintsov, constable Kiyomi Parsons, constable André Poulin and constable Alex Wood apprehended a robbery suspect armed with a high powered assault rifle.

Sidney/North Saanich Detachment and Central Saanich Police Service

Corporal Erin Fraser and constable Gary Lacey apprehended an armed and violent offender.

Nelson Police Department

Constable David Laing placed himself at personal risk saving a woman as she jumped from a bridge.

Saanich Police Department

Sergeant Trevor Dyck and Name Withheld placed themselves at personal risk to deal with a distraught and suicidal male armed with a shotgun.

Vancouver Police Department

Constable Ismail Bhabha and Name Withheld rescued a man trapped in a submerged vehicle.

Constable Jeffrey Fletcher and constable Andre Haaksma extinguished a fire and evacuated hotel residents.

Constable John Gravengard and constable Tajinder Parmar entered a burning building to locate and evacuate trapped residents.

Burnaby Detachment

Corporal William Wark dealt with an aggressive male armed with knives.

Kelowna Detachment

Sergeant Jeff Meyers (currently with Federal Serious and Organized Crime) and constable Greg Barnard saved a suicidal woman dangling from a fourth floor balcony.

Langley Detachment

Name Withheld placed himself at personal risk to stop an aggressive female armed with a knife from jumping out a third floor window.

Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services

While off duty, sergeant Derek King rescued residents from a burning home.

Surrey Detachment

Constable Michael Scoretz placed himself at personal risk while dealing with a distraught and aggressive male armed with a knife.

AWARDS OF MERITORIOUS SERVICE:

New Westminster Police Department

Constable Sean Hackman, constable Adam Hohmann, constable Darryl Newman and Name Withheld, displayed exceptional judgment while dealing with a distraught and suicidal male armed with a knife.

South Coast BC Transportation Authority Police Service

Constable Martin Hurst has displayed ongoing dedication, initiative and expertise in social media investigations and internet open source intelligence which has changed the way many police services in Canada investigate a wide variety of crimes.

Vancouver Police Department

Constable Nicholas Thompson and constable Greg Bismeyer (retired) ensured the evacuation of residents from a burning building.

Constable Simon Cracknell and constable Darren Telenko dealt with a deranged man armed with a knife.

While off duty, constable Trevor Kine pursued and aided in the apprehension of two armed suspects.

Constable Raymond Payette has displayed ongoing dedication, compassion and tenacity in solving missing person investigations.

Campbell River Detachment

Constable Kyle Ushock placed himself at personal risk to rescue a distressed kayaker who had capsized in Discovery Passage.

Fort St. James Detachment and Vanderhoof Detachment

Name Withheld and constable Kanwalprit Sidhu (currently with Vernon Detachment) displayed exceptional judgement during a suspicious vehicle stop that led to the discovery of a homicide victim.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team

Chief superintendent Kevin Hackett (currently with Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit), constable Bonny Munn and Names Withheld (x5) displayed exceptional performance and dedication during a major investigation targeting leaders and key members of rival criminal organizations (Project E-Prion).

Superintendent Manny Mann (currently with Surrey Detachment), sergeant Sodi Dhillon (currently with Federal Serious and Organized Crime), sergeant Michael Kim (Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit), sergeant Stephen Lee and Names Withheld (x3) displayed exceptional performance and dedication during a major investigation involving a conspiracy to murder key members of a criminal organization (Project E-Patroon).

Staff sergeant Graham de la Gorgendiere, sergeant Avtar Terry Senghera, corporal Kristine Fiala, constable Ashley Harker and Name Withheld displayed exceptional dedication and commitment during a high-profile investigation into the random, fatal attack of a community member.

Kitimat Detachment

Constable Angus MacLean (currently with Prince Rupert Coastal Policing Unit) handled both the suspects and victims of a stabbing.

Langley Detachment

Constable Warren Long (currently with Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team), constable Audrey Parent and Constable Inderjeet Sandhu saved the life of a suicidal woman.

Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services

Constable Michael Jordan placed himself at personal risk to enter Cultus Lake to search for and recover a missing swimmer.

100 Mile House Detachment

Constable Daniel Ko used exceptional judgement during a domestic assault complaint involving two uncooperative individuals armed with knives.

Port Alberni Detachment

Constable Stephen Joseph Yvon Dupuis demonstrated exceptional judgement while dealing with an aggressive male suffering from mental health issues.

Surrey Detachment

Corporal Anne-Marie Lavallee, constable Thomas Flynn and constable Ranjit Seehra separated an aggressive male with a knife from a child hostage.

Constable Andrew Barr (currently with Hope Detachment) placed himself at personal risk to extinguish a burning motorcycle and save the life of the severely injured rider.
