The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a boating mishap on Chemainus Lake on Nov. 25, 2015.

He is Brayden Edward Gale, aged 22, of Nanaimo, B.C.

Mr. Gale was fishing with a friend when the canoe they were in capsized. The friend was able to swim to a nearby dock. Mr. Gale disappeared, and his body was recovered from the lake by the RCMP dive team 5 hours later. Neither Mr. Gale nor his friend were wearing lifejackets at the time of the incident.

The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Gale has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
