Minister of International Trade Teresa Wat issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Final Determination that imposes duties on Catalyst exports of supercalendared paper:
“We are very disappointed with the continued lack of consideration of Catalyst in this investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce. We are confident that a full investigation of Catalyst will confirm they have received no government subsidies.
“We are especially concerned that this Final Determination continues to apply damaging, unwarranted duties on Catalyst when there has been no consideration to any of the company-specific information that has been submitted.
“The duties imposed are based on the average subsidy rate found for two other Canadian exporters rather than on Catalyst’s own information. The Department of Commerce continues to treat Catalyst unfairly in this process.
“We will be reviewing the Final Determination, and considering our next steps in co-ordination with the government of Canada and Catalyst.”
