Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman has issued the following statement following Pacific NorthWest LNG’s preliminary investment decision:
“The Province of British Columbia welcomes today’s commercial investment decision by Pacific NorthWest LNG to build a liquefied natural gas export facility in Prince Rupert.
“Our government has put this new industry in a position of strength to move forward and created certainty for Pacific NorthWest LNG on its path.
“We recognize there is work to do, including an environmental assessment by the Government of Canada, as well as engagement with First Nations. The Province of British Columbia will continue to work with all partners to ensure the project is developed with the highest standards of environmental protection and enhancement.
“Developing an LNG industry will result in some of the largest private-sector investments in British Columbia’s history, stimulating economic activity throughout our province like never before. Pacific NorthWest LNG is poised to be the first major operation in this new, exciting future.”
Pacific NorthWest LNG is comprised of PETRONAS, Sinopec, JAPEX, Indian Oil Corporation and PetroleumBRUNEI.
