As part of British Columbia’s international LNG conference in Vancouver, Oct. 14-16, 2015, students will be invited to participate in a new GameChanger: Youth Expo.
GameChanger is an interactive event that will provide opportunities for grade-school students, undergraduate students, and technical-school students to test their creative thinking and problem solving skills. It is being launched by the Government of British Columbia in conjunction with Skills Canada BC, the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
As part of the experience, competitions will be held to showcase innovation as it applies to energy, technology or a trade. The event will allow students to challenge their minds, apply new ideas, and explore career paths linked to LNG and the energy sector.
Junior competitions are planned for students in grades 5 to 9, with senior challenges scheduled for grades 11, 12 and post-secondary. These challenges will focus on energy and will involve focused competitions in trade areas like engineering, welding and steamfitting.
A half-day program called GameChanger Interactive will also take place, providing students an opportunity to hear from keynote speakers and participate in sessions focused on careers in the energy sector.
Details and registration for the GameChanger event are accessible now at: http://gamechanger.lngconference.ca/
As B.C.’s LNG industry develops, it will create jobs all over the province and will include direct and indirect employment opportunities. Many of British Columbia’s most promising job prospects will be linked to this new industry.
Quote:
Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman –
“Building an LNG industry represents a chance for B.C.’s youth to consider jobs that have never been part of Canada’s economy before. The GameChanger event is part of our work to ensure youth are prepared for future trades and the opportunities LNG is creating.”
