Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement today:
“I want to congratulate the State of California and Governor Brown for their new, aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.
“To make a difference against climate change, subnational governments have to lead by example - which is why B.C. has been working with our Pacific Coast Collaborative partners in Washington, Oregon and California towards achievable solutions and tangible results.
“In B.C., we have been leading by example since 2008, when we introduced our carbon tax. Since then, it has attracted global recognition as a model to follow, and proof positive governments don’t have to choose between economic development and protecting the environment.
“Like California, in B.C. we want to take our success in reducing emissions and build on it, which is why we recently committed to the development of a new Climate Action Plan 2.0, to achieve our own reduction targets of 33% below 2007 levels by 2020, and 80% below by 2050.”
