Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement marking the birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji:

“Greetings and best wishes to British Columbia’s Sikh community on celebrating the Gurpurb (Birthday) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

“The founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak lived his life according to the values that have come to define his faith: equality for all, the value of service to your community, an honest living – and, perhaps most poignantly for our times, that all people should live in peace, regardless of their faith or the colour of their skin.

“This occasion allows us to celebrate our rich diversity in our province and to be grateful for the contributions of our Sikh friends, who enrich communities throughout B.C.”
