PRINGE GEORGE - Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement (CVSE) Officer Toni Kristinsson died as a result of a collision on Highway 5 near Valemount on Sunday, Feb. 1.

Officer Kristinsson was driving home near the end of his shift when his patrol vehicle collided with a commercial transport truck. He had worked for the CVSE branch for a little over three years and spent a majority of his time working in the Robson Valley out of the Tete Jaune Inspection Station.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the entire provincial government community is deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Kristinsson, and sends sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

The CVSE branch is part of a larger community of peace officers throughout British Columbia, Canada and North America. Members of this community will pay their respects to Officer Kristinsson and his family this Saturday, at a memorial service to honour his dedication and contributions to his job, his community and his CVSE and Transportation family.

The RCMP investigation into the incident is ongoing.

On behalf of the family, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure asks the media to respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.
