Two new web cams are now operational on Highway 5 to give drivers a real-time update of traffic volumes on river crossings in Kamloops, announced Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone.
A permanent web cam has been installed on Highway 5 at Halston Avenue with 4 views (looking north, south, west and east). As well, a temporary camera is located on Highway 5 at Mt. Paul Way with 3 views (looking north, south and southeast) to aid motorists while the City of Kamloops undertakes work on the Overlanders Bridge. These web cams can be viewed, under the ‘Southern Interior’ tab, at: http://drivebc.ca/#webcams
Quotes:
Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone -
“Ministry staff worked hard to install cameras in strategic locations that will benefit commuters, commercial drivers and tourists travelling to and from the Kamloops north shore. We now have close to 500 highway webcam images available to help drivers ‘know before you go’ and make travel plans according to traffic congestion, weather conditions, and other events or advisories posted for our provincial roadways.”
Minister of Health and MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson Terry Lake -
“These new highway web cams provide timely and accurate information about current road conditions. They are a useful tool to help plan the best route safely and efficiently through the Kamloops area whether people are en route to a local destination or travelling to points beyond our community.”
