Improvements are coming to Highway 97D between the interchange at the Coquihalla Highway and Logan Lake this year, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.
The rehabilitation of provincial highways and improvements to B.C.’s side roads is a major theme of the government’s 10-year transportation plan, B.C. on the Move. As part of this plan, this project on Highway 97D will include more than 20 kilometres of repaving, including the addition of wider paved shoulders to make the road safer and more comfortable for all users.
“I heard loud and clear from MLA Jackie Tegart and the Logan Lake council that this important community link needed to be repaved,” said Stone. “This project that I am announcing today will help meet those needs. The improvements we have planned will make the road safer for local residents, commuters to Highland Valley Copper Mine and commercial traffic.”
The project will go to tender in July 2015 and is expected to be complete this fall.
“This paving project will be a welcome improvement for mine traffic to and from Highland Valley Copper,” said Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart. “My work with Logan Lake council is showing results with this project and others. It is just one of many improvements that B.C. on the Move is bringing to our region.”
The Province will invest $380 million over the next three years to resurface provincial highways, with 1,000 kilometres of provincial highway resurfaced annually.
B.C. on the Move is government’s 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. The actions prioritized in B.C. on the Move will enhance safety, grow the economy, maintain and replace aging infrastructure, and support trade for B.C.’s expanding resource sectors through Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway. Over the next three years, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest up to $2.5 billion to improve B.C.’s transportation network.
