Safety and access improvements are coming to the intersection at Highway 37 and Kitamaat Village Road beginning later this summer as part of B.C. on the Move, the government’s 10-year transportation plan, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.
The Province will invest $200,000 to reconfigure the intersection to improve sight lines for drivers turning onto Highway 37/Haisla Boulevard, and increase the turning radius for large vehicles turning on to Kitamaat Village Road.
“This improvement will make a significant difference to the residents and commercial drivers who turn at this intersection,” said Stone. “I know this has been a concern to the District of Kitimat and the Haisla Nation, especially in light of increased economic activity in the region. Improving intersection safety is one of the key priorities in our B.C. on the Move 10-year transportation plan, so it’s great to see this project coming together so quickly.”
The project is in the design phase and work is anticipated to start later this summer. It is part of $30 million the ministry is investing over the next three years in intersection safety improvements in communities throughout B.C.
B.C. on the Move is government’s new 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. It provides a comprehensive road map for transportation investments and strategic policy actions over the next decade. The actions prioritized in B.C. on the Move will enhance safety, grow the economy, maintain and replace aging infrastructure, and support trade for B.C.’s expanding resource sectors through Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway.
Over the next three years, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest up to $2.5 billion to improve British Columbia’s transportation network.
