Crews have now completed a 7.5-kilometre resurfacing project along East Shuswap Road, improving safety and mobility for local residents, commercial truck operators, tourists, and golf enthusiasts.
Work started on the $1.24-million resurfacing project in late August, and was completed on Oct. 13, 2015.
7.5 kilometres of two-lane road have been re-paved from the turn off to Rivershore Estates and Golf Links to five kilometres east of Mallard Road. The work included improvements to the existing shoulders along the road to make it safer for cyclists travelling along East Shuswap Road.
“This particular roadway had been showing signs of deterioration and cracking, and was very much in need of rehabilitation,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “This resurfacing work will certainly improve the drive, making it safer, smoother and more efficient for all road users.”
The rehabilitation of provincial highways and improvements to side roads is a major theme of the government’s 10-year transportation plan – B.C. on the Move. The government will invest $270 million over the next three years to improve side roads, with the goal of improving over 500 kilometres annually.
B.C. on the Move is government’s new 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network.
Over the next three years, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest up to $2.5 billion to improve B.C.’s transportation network.
