Local area roads just got a bit smoother, with the repaving of 34 kilometres of interior highways, providing a safer, better ride for residents, tourists and the trucking industry. Work was completed on sections of Highways 1, 97 and 97C as well as sections of local side roads in the area.
“Work is now complete on five separate sites in the Ashcroft and Cache Creek area,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “This resurfacing project benefits the local economy, as these area roads serve as an important hub for moving goods and services to and from the Cariboo and the Lower Mainland and Southern Interior.”
“The completion of this work caps off a busy resurfacing season in B.C. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while this important work was being completed,” said MLA for Fraser-Nicola Jackie Tegart. “Commuters will now see improvements to Highway 1, Highway 97, Highway 97C and sections of Loon Lake Road, Evans Road and the Old Cariboo Road.”
“The completion of these resurfacing projects is like putting out a new welcome mat in our community,” said Cache Creek Mayor John Ranta. “In addition, Cache Creek was able to complete much-needed improvements to local side roads. I’m pleased that we were able to partner with the Province to get this important work done.”
“These surfacing improvements will ensure safer journeys for both our residents and our visitors, whether they are commuting to work or out for a drive,” said Village of Ashcroft Mayor Jack Jeyes. “In addition, work completed on some of the side roads helps out local government with projects that would have otherwise been out of reach.”
The $5-million contract was delivered by Dawson Construction Limited of Kamloops.
The rehabilitation of provincial highways, bridges and side roads is a priority of B.C. on the Move, a 10-year transportation plan that outlines critical investments and improvements through the province to improve the daily lives of British Columbians.
