Michael de Jong, QC, Minister of Finance and minister responsible for the Public Service Agency, has issued the following statement acknowledging Public Service Week:
“Employees from throughout B.C.’s public service are recognizing Public Service Week from June 13 to 17, 2016. Public Service Week is celebrated annually across Canada, and provides an opportunity to acknowledge all public servants for their contributions. The BC Public Service is the largest employer in the province, with over 26,000 employees and more than 200 distinct fields of occupation.
“British Columbians benefit every day from the dedication and commitment shown by their provincial public service. They protect and support the vulnerable in society; protect our water, trees and environment; and support the delivery of health care, education and important social services. Our public service also contributes to British Columbia’s fiscal and economic strength.
“Every member of the BC Public Service swears the B.C. Public Service Oath of Employment, which reflects the serious commitment undertaken by members of the BC Public Service. It reinforces the integrity and impartiality of the professional public service. It commits members of the BC Public Service not only to deliver services to the people of British Columbia, but to do so in ways that maintain and enhance the public’s trust and confidence in government. These proud women and men work hard to ensure that commitment is visible every day as they provide services to British Columbians throughout the province.
“This week, when you cross paths with a public servant – from any level of government – I encourage you to thank them for their dedication to serving the people of British Columbia.”
