Finance Minister Michael de Jong has issued the following statement on the passing of Jim Prentice, former Alberta premier and former federal cabinet minister:

“I was very saddened to learn about the untimely passing of Jim Prentice. Jim was an enduring champion of Canadian values who devoted much of his adult life to public service.

“Today is a day to honour Jim’s service to all Canadians. I am particularly mindful of the critical and constructive role Jim played during an important time in Canada’s relationship with Aboriginal people.

“Like many who had the opportunity to work with Jim, I will remember him for his sensitivity, integrity and collaborative approach to seeking solutions. His legacy will carry on through his countless contributions to our country.

“My sincerest condolences go out to Jim’s family, friends and all who knew him.”
