The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is working with the Skeetchestn First Nation to conduct a prescribed burn near Savona in the Kamloops Fire Zone.
Smoke from this controlled burn may be visible from Savona, from Highway 1 and around Kamloops Lake. Trained firefighting crews from the BC Wildfire Service are carefully monitoring this fire.
The decision to proceed with today’s burn was made due to favourable weather and site conditions. Such burns are only conducted when conditions are suitable and will allow for quick smoke dissipation and a “low” to “moderate” fire intensity.
The goal of this burn is to establish a perimeter containing fewer forest fuels, so that any prescribed fires conducted in the same area in future will be easier to contain.
