BC Wildfire Service crews have successfully contained or extinguished all recent wildfires in the Cariboo Fire Centre. The wildfire near Nazko and the wildfire near the Bonaparte River recreation site are both now 100% contained.
- The Nazko fire is three kilometres south of the community of Nazko and 30 firefighters are continuing their fire suppression efforts there with the support of a helicopter.
- The fire near the Bonaparte River recreation site, 15 kilometres southeast of 70 Mile House, is in the mop-up stage, which means that crews are looking for and extinguishing any remaining hot spots. Twenty-two firefighters are on site today, April 13, 2016.
All other fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre are either extinguished or in the patrol stage at this time.
Since March 1, 2016, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 39 wildfires. All of these fires were caused by people. The BC Wildfire Service reminds the public that Category 2 and 3 open fires have been prohibited since April 4, 2016 throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre. This means that all open burning other than campfires is prohibited.
