The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a series of prescribed burns in the West Parsnip area of the Mackenzie Natural Resource District from Sept. 19-23, 2016, if weather and site conditions are favourable.
These controlled burns will occur at about the 52.3-kilometre mark on the West Parsnip Forest Service Road and will cover about 39.8 hectares. They will be conducted by highly trained BC Wildfire Service personnel and other staff from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, who will carefully monitor the fires at all times.
The introduction of managed fire to these areas will help restore ecosystems and maintain plant communities that are native to the area. These managed fires will also reduce the amount of forests fuels and decrease the risk of devastating wildfires in future.
All prescribed burns must comply with the Environmental Management Act and the open burning smoke control regulation. This helps minimize the amount of smoke generated.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
