Members of the public are advised that Maggie Lake Forest Service Road, 10 kilometres northwest of Ucluelet, will remain closed due to a rockfall at kilometre 9.
Road crews have determined that removing some of the debris blocking the road will require blasting.
Due to safety regulations, this type of operation can’t be carried out under heavy rain conditions. The current weather forecast calls for a series of storms in the area over the next four days. Given these circumstances, the road will remain closed until weather conditions permit work crews to safely remove the debris.
It is expected that the earliest opening of Maggie Lake Forest Service Road will be Friday, October 21, 2016. Updates will be posted on the South Island Natural Resource District website: https://www.for.gov.bc.ca/dsi/Road_Info/FSR_Info.htm
The road is barricaded on either side of the rockfall and warning signs have been posted. In the interest of public safety, people are cautioned not to proceed beyond the signs and barricades.
An alternate route between Toquart Bay and Ucluelet is available by way of the Barkley Main Forest Service Road – which has been graded and brushed for safety – off Port Albion Road. A map of the Barkley Main Forest Service Road will be available on the South Island Natural Resource District website listed above.
The Maggie Lake and Barkley Main Forest Services Roads are located within a 10-kilometre radius northwest of Ucluelet.
