The nomination period for South Asian Canadian historic places has been extended to Nov. 30, 2016, to allow more opportunity for the public to submit nominations.
Nominations are being sought for historic places with significance to British Columbians of South Asian descent, which reflect the development and history of the province.
Nominations can be made and information about the project can be found on the Heritage BC website: http://www.heritagebc.ca/south-asian-canadian-historic-places
Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed jointly by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and project partners, the Royal BC Museum and the University of the Fraser Valley. Final decisions are expected to be made in early 2017.
Heritage BC, a not-for-profit, charitable organization, has been contracted to administer the nomination process. Its mandate is to support heritage conservation throughout British Columbia through advocacy, training and skills development, capacity building in heritage planning and funding through the Heritage Legacy Fund.
