The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died after falling through ice on the Kettle River on Dec. 30, 2015.
He was Thomas Charles Grubisic, aged 54, of Grand Forks.
Mr. Grubisic was seen in the river, holding onto the ice on the afternoon of Dec. 30. He disappeared before rescuers could reach him. Tracks in the snow indicated he was trying to walk across the ice covered river in an area just south of Highway 3.
The next day Search and Rescue personnel and the RCMP Dive Team located and recovered Mr. Grubisic, deceased, from the river.
The BC Coroners Service and Grand Forks RCMP continue to investigate this death.
Mr. Grubisic’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
