Young people of White Rock will have an opportunity to learn about the skills they will need for tomorrow’s in-demand occupations.
WorkBC’s Find Your Fit tour will be making its next stop at the White Rock Sea Festival on Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, 2016.
Find Your Fit is an interactive event where individuals of all ages can learn about B.C.’s in-demand careers and test out some of the skills they would need for those occupations. Participants will also get to know career planning tools — such as Blueprint Builder and Career Trek videos — and the job resources and labour-market information WorkBC.ca offers.
Parents, teachers and career counsellors may benefit, too — by discovering ways to educate and support youth in their career exploration.
The Find Your Fit event will be open to the public at no cost from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Find Your Fit is part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint commitment to re-engineer education and deliver the skilled workforce needed in B.C.’s growing economy. The tour has had more than 150, 000 participants so far, most recently in Westbank and Kelowna.
Quote:
Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour–
“Through B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, we are committed to preparing the skilled workforce that our growing economy needs. The Find Your Fit tour ensures that our youth have the tools and resources necessary to consider the full range of in-demand occupations available to them.”
Gordon Hogg, MLA for Surrey-White Rock –
“It’s wonderful to have Find Your Fit in my home riding of Surrey-White Rock as part of the Sea Festival. Find Your Fit is hands-on educational entertainment, and gives our youth the tools they need to start their future career planning. B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint and Find Your Fit are excellent examples of programs that our government has in place to keep B.C. the nationwide leader in job creation.”
