Minister of International Trade and Minister Responsible for Asia Pacific Strategy and Multiculturalism Teresa Wat issued the following statement today.
“It gives me great pleasure to wish British Columbia’s Chinese community, and all British Columbians, a happy, healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year in the Year of the Monkey.
“The Lunar New Year is an important Chinese traditional holiday, highlighting family, a fresh start and seasonal renewal. It is a time of celebration and an ushering of good fortune into the lives of our neighbours and friends. This day is also a colourful reminder of the vast array of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives that makes B.C. unique and economically strong.
“The monkey, though mischievous, symbolizes energy, curiosity and invention. This translates into an innovative year ahead for B.C., which is very appropriate as our province moves ahead with new strategies to grow our economy, create well-paying jobs for British Columbians and connect to thriving markets overseas.
“As we mark the Lunar New Year with festivities throughout the province, let us take a moment to reflect on the events of the past year and look ahead to new opportunities in the future.
“Gung Hay Fat Choy and Gong Xi Fa Cai. May you and your family enjoy good health, peace and prosperity in the new year.”
