The Province is committed to ensuring that anyone who wants to get out of the cold this winter has a warm, safe place to go.

Recognizing a need to open more shelter spaces on a nightly basis, the B.C. government and City of Vancouver have extended funding for 124 temporary winter-shelter spaces in Vancouver to allow them to remain open seven nights a week.

Three of the four sites listed below were operating as extreme weather response shelters that would only open during periods of severe weather. These shelters will now remain open every night until the end of January. The temporary winter shelter at 143 Dunlevy Ave. will add an additional 20 shelter spaces for women in the city and will also be open on a nightly basis.

• 20 spaces (women only) at 143 Dunlevy Ave – 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• 40 spaces at 119 E Cordova St. – 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. 
• 24 spaces at 828 Cambie St. – 4 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• 40 spaces at 609 Helmcken St. – will open in the new year

The Province funds close to 1,400 shelter spaces in Vancouver, which includes shelters that are open year-round, temporary winter shelters and extreme weather response shelters.
