Canada’s western and northern premiers will begin gathering in Vancouver today as Premier Christy Clark hosts the annual Western Premiers' Conference (WPC).
“I am looking forward to be hosting this year’s Western Premiers' Conference,” said Premier Clark. “The conference provides us an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with our neighbours and to discuss opportunities to build long-term partnerships and work together for the benefit of all Canadians.”
The main focus of this year’s conference will be growing the economy, including responsible energy and resource development, climate action, and international trade and market access. The premiers will also discuss Aboriginal entrepreneurship, immigration, and wildfires, floods and drought.
“This year's conference promises to once again be a productive and invaluable opportunity to discuss our goals and challenges and develop a common outlook on the way forward,” added Premier Clark. “We can do more for the people of our provinces and territories by working together.”
The Western Premiers’ Conference is held annually. It brings together the leaders of Canada’s four western provinces and three territories in order to advance priorities and mutual areas of interest.
