Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement to mark National Aboriginal Day:
“Today British Columbia and Canada mark the 20th anniversary of National Aboriginal Day. It’s a time to celebrate the heritage and contributions First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples continue to play in our province.
“National Aboriginal Day is also an opportunity to create awareness about the social injustices that our country’s Aboriginal people have endured, and the importance of reconciliation. By confronting our shared history, we can take the necessary steps towards a better future, shared prosperity and, ultimately, reconciliation.
“I hope British Columbians are able to celebrate and join in this year’s National Aboriginal Day events. With more than 200 First Nations communities and more than 100 events taking place throughout the province, there are a lot of opportunities to participate.”
