Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement in recognition of India’s Independence Day:

"August 15, 2016, marks the 69th anniversary of India's independence.

"India is the world’s largest democracy, and continues to make achievements in economic growth, cultural vibrancy and steady progress toward equality for all.

"British Columbians of Indian heritage have made remarkable contributions to our province through business and community building, helping to build the inclusive and diverse society of which we are so proud.

"As India celebrates its independence, we can also celebrate the strong and growing cultural and economic ties between British Columbia and India.

"Happy Independence Day!"
