In recognition of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement: 

“On August 24, 1991, Ukraine’s Parliament declared independence from the former Soviet Union.

“As Ukraine faces ongoing threats to its sovereignty, we continue to stand with her people in support of their efforts to champion our shared values of freedom and self-determination.  

“Communities throughout our province and country have immeasurably benefited from 125 years of Ukrainian settlement. Today, Ukrainian culture is part of the Canadian fabric.

“On behalf of all British Columbians, congratulations to everyone celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day.”
