Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement on the occasion of Eid al-Adha:
“Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, is an important holiday for Muslims worldwide as it commemorates Ibrahim’s commitment to God. It is a time of reflection and forgiveness, and families and communities mark the festival with special meals, prayers and gifts, including by making charitable donations to those less fortunate. Those who are able undertake the hajj, or holy pilgrimage to Mecca, and one of the five pillars of Islam.
“As Muslims around the world gather to celebrate Eid ad-Adha, we take this opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of B.C.’s Muslim community in helping to shape our great province.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish everyone celebrating Eid al-Adha a happy and healthy festival.
“Eid Mubarak.”
