Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement to mark the start of Rosh Hashanah:
“This evening at sunset, Jewish communities throughout the province will mark the start of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
“Seeking repentance and renewal, families and friends will participate in symbolic traditions that include listening to the blowing of the shofar, casting away one’s sins, and eating apples and honey.
“Rosh Hashanah provides all British Columbians with an opportunity to reflect on the past year and look to the future with hope.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah a happy, healthy and sweet New Year.
“Shana tova u’metuka!”
