Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement on the death of Dr. Raghbir Bains:
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Dr. Raghbir Bains.
“Born in India, he later made British Columbia his home – and has left a lasting legacy in two of the world’s great countries.
“A true renaissance man, it’s difficult to overstate the scope of Dr. Bains’ accomplishments. A prolific writer, activist, scholar, and philanthropist, he was a titan in fields as different as Sikh history, remote learning, and helping those coping with drug addiction or HIV-AIDS.
“He showed that great things are possible – even for the son of a humble peasant – and made a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives.
“He will be mourned literally around the world. My thoughts are with his family.”
