Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement in recognition of B.C. Multiculturalism Week:
“B.C. Multiculturalism Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate our diverse, inclusive and welcoming society that has made us the envy of the world.
“Today, over one quarter of B.C.’s population identifies as a visible minority, and that cultural diversity has become one of our greatest strengths. It helps create strong and vibrant communities, and has become a competitive advantage for Canada’s leading economy, as ethnic, ancestral, and cultural ties lead to investment, educational, and business links.
“Whether your ancestors first came here millennia ago, in the first wave of European settlers, or if you just arrived this year – in B.C. we strive to build a society where everyone feels at home. I encourage everyone to join in this week’s celebrations throughout the province, and remember why we are fortunate to call this wonderful place home.”
