Ahead of the Family Day long weekend, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Morris has issued the following statement:
“I want to wish everyone a fun and safe Family Day – and to that end, I also ask that you help keep our roads and everyone on them safe.
“Long weekends make for busier than normal times on our roads. That means you need to be more cautious than usual, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination safely. Plan ahead by keeping up to date on weather and driving conditions – DriveBC is an excellent resource – www.drivebc.ca – and be sure to adjust your speed accordingly.
“As a former police officer, I’ve too often seen the life-altering consequences of bad decisions on our roads. Nobody deserves to lose a loved one to an entirely preventable crash – so please, do yourself and your fellow citizens a favour: don’t drink and drive, don’t drive distracted, and don’t speed. And rest assured that police will be out in force, providing stringent enforcement to help maximize your safety.
“Enjoy your well-deserved long weekend and stay safe.”
