The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after a hiking incident in Nelson on Aug. 26, 2016.
She was Jamie Denise Latreille, aged 37, from Nelson.
Ms. Latreille and a companion were walking along the top of Cottonwood Falls in Nelson when Ms. Latreille lost her footing and fell about 25 metres, landing first on rocks and then in Cottonwood Creek. She was pulled from the water and transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital, but she died in hospital from her injuries the next morning.
The BC Coroners Service and Nelson City Police continue to investigate this death.
Ms. Latreille’s family has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
