The BC Coroners Service is investigating the deaths of four persons in the crash of an airplane near Kelowna on the evening of Oct. 13, 2016.
A coroner from Kelowna attended the scene of the crash in a heavily wooded area about 2.3 kilometres north of Beaver Lake Road, east of Lake Country, on the morning of Oct. 14. Identification specialists from BC Coroners Service headquarters in Burnaby are also on their way to the site.
The four persons were aboard a Cessna Citation jet aircraft which had taken off from Kelowna airport only a few minutes before the crash, shortly after 10 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2016, heading to the Calgary area.
Preliminary reports indicate that this, like many air crashes, will be a complex scene to investigate. The BC Coroners Service personnel will be working closely with investigators from the Transportation Safety Board and RCMP.
No identities will be confirmed until recovery of the deceased persons is complete, and identification has been formally confirmed. This is expected to take several days, and the BC Coroners Service does not expect to release any further information until Monday at the earliest.
